we have had a little scenario today where the sub menu, "save as, send to, cut, copy etc" of the main menus i.e file, Edit, View, Insert etc etc were "greyed out"
The secretarial staff couldn't use the menus for the purposes for why they were built. I believe this happened while they were using SCM.
Should this happen again to anyone else the way to fix it is
C:documents and settings/ profile name/ application data / Microsoft / templates / normal.dot
(of course application data is a hidden file, to unhide files go to "tools, folder options click on the view tab and click the show hidden files and folders")
Deleting this file (as long as word is closed off) and then when you reopen word is reproduces a new normal.dot template and the greyed out menu bites would have returned.
Hope this helps for the future.
However there is a downside!!! the user will lose their autotext entries, if they have saved any.
you just can't win
